passop - PASSOP (People Against Suffering, Suppression, Oppression and Poverty)

Subject: PASSOP (People Against Suffering, Suppression, Oppression and Poverty)

Description: PASSOP (People Against Suffering, Suppression, Oppression and Poverty) was formed as an advocacy and service group in response to
the drastic influx of immigrants and refugees to South Africa from trouble spots across all of Africa.
Millions have been forced by oppression and poverty to leave home and family in their native land. They have come to South Africa in search of freedom and survival.
Yet too often they have been shamed, neglected by the bureaucracy, and subjected to harsh treatment by police.

PASSOP believes that South Africa, as the leader in Africa, should affirm that the goals of our Freedom Charter apply, not just to South Africans, but to all people.
PASSOP calls on South Africa to embrace all Africans as equals. Through advocacy and service, PASSOP intends to hold our country to this high purpose.
This is especially pressing now as we deal with the lives and destinies of millions of our brothers and sisters who are designated illegal immigrants
and refugees but who should, in a united Africa, enjoy basic human rights.
